Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts 6/5/10

There is a Festival of the Arts every summer in Downtown Grand Rapids. This is a celebration of art, music, dance, theater, and various other forms of art. There are also LOTS of different food booths manned by volunteers from various non-profit organizations like churchs or schools. We try to go down every year and participate in the fun.

One of the areas is a kids only "Paint In". This is where the kid goes into a closed off section and paint whatever they want. Marc had trouble decided what to paint. After some thinking and contemplating, he started his masterpiece.
He decided to paint a rainbow. :-) This is his is finished painting master piece.
The second area Marc did was the kids only "Glue In". This is another area where the kids go in without their parents. They choose different wood scraps to use.......
and then begin their creating.

Samantha wanted to watch her brother be creative. :-)
In the end Marc decided to make a couple of towers. (We thought it looked like a stage, seating area, and a band shell).Unfortunately, Samantha was not old enough to do the Paint-In and Glue-In, so we took her to the "Chalk the Walk". This was a large area or sidewalk where people could draw/color whatever they wanted with the chalk.
While Daddy had Samantha at the chalk, I took Marc to the "Mad Hatter". Here he could choose if he wanted to make a cone hat or a mad-hatter hat. He chose to make a mad hatter hat. They gave him a rolled up brown paper bag for him to decorate. They did the stickers and markers on their own, then they had to have a "helper" use a hot glue gun to glue decorations on.
Marc's finished mad-hatter hat. :-)
We had already gotten lunch from the booths before we did the arts. So, after the arts, we had to hit the booths for some dessert. We got 2 ice cream cones for the 4 of us to share. Samantha would only take spoonfuls of ice cream from her brother...too cute!! :-)
Do you think all the fun and fresh air wore Samantha out? ;-)
It was another fun Festival this year. Looking forward to going again next year. :-)
